Maverick Llewellin Setters was established to maintain the Llewellin Setter breed and to produce dogs that excel both as family pets and superior hunters. The Llewellin Setter is in our opinion the finest breed of Setter in the world. Many refer to the traditional Field Setter as Llewellins but this is not entirely accurate - true Llewellins are a distinguishable strain of the English Setter with well-documented history. We have found these dogs to be the most versatile afield and wonderful companions at home. Llewellins cater to those who desire a hunting partner that is a member of the family as well.

We share Mr. Llewellin's passion for producing the perfect Setter and our desire is to preserve the integrity of his esteemed work. Perfection is a wonderful pursuit but in the end unachievable due to differing opinions on the ideal Setter. Accordingly, we focus on constantly trying to improve our dogs and travel around the world in search of characteristics and lines to that end. The Llewellins we love and cherish are those with uncanny natural hunting instincts, wonderful noses, exceptional style, and charming dispositions.

Based in Houston, Texas, the majority of our hunting is done down in South Texas. Accordingly, our dogs are bred to be heat-tolerant and agile for rough country. In addition, we are a family-run operation (toddlers included) so our dogs are accustomed to family members of all sizes and ages.
